Design Review and Construction Oversight – Facility Replacement Project
Poole Fire Protection served as the Qualified Fire Protection Engineer that provided: life safety code analysis; 3rd Party Peer Review of the design documents; and construction administration services for the 8-Building construction effort at FRAU Project at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. This project included multiple structures for a combined total of 192,578 SF, including a two-bay maintenance hangar, a large back shop with paint booth, a fuel shop, a Chiller Yard building, a fire pump building, and two electrical switchgear buildings. The two-bay maintenance hangar, back shop building and the fuel shop’s building contained flammable, combustible liquids and hazardous waste materials which require special review and evaluation from the fire protection and life safety perspective.
Review of the fire protection/life safety design analysis was performed in accordance to applicable codes and standards. Fire protection systems included high expansion foam, wet pipe sprinkler, clean agent, foam releasing, fire pump/water storage tank and fire alarm/mass notification. Construction services included responding to RFI’s, participating in meetings, performing construction observation site visits, developed detailed preliminary and final testing procedures and was present for all preliminary and final acceptance testing/commissioning of the fire protection systems and review/approve the as-built drawings and O&M Manuals for the fire protection systems.
